Bad Dreams

by REBEL ONE

about

We make huge mistakes by letting people slide. Sometimes, those oversights lead to events we can never repair. In other cases, the Universe steps in and heals the wound. Regardless of the outcome, it's worth keeping your head above the moment.

lyrics

Doing right is a battle, stay
In con-trol
Fight like the devil, to
Save your soul
Oh, man it's never easy when you know
Ending it will make the struggle easy
Fight like the devil, to
Save your soul.
Save your soul.

Exercising my right as a lyricist by
Exorcising a demon, with you hearin this
Spirited drums, bass banged in the basement
With a baser coming down cold turkey
this song has a placement, pardon if I’m wordy
Here I go again, talking ‘bout freedom
It’s just, I hit a blind spot, wish I seen it
Heroes often wear dreads, how convenient

In the wrong place, wrong time, upbringin’
Forced choices I would soon regret
Voices singing, a dissonant duet.
“Hold me, please. I’m feeling bad.”
Took advice from the wrong shoulder, sad
Songs say a ton about moments in time
Which conjure recollections of a better slime
Lesser devine me, absolutely regrets
This here to be used as an epithet

Not pressing that pillow cross her head and face
Hold till after convulsions or conversation
With the devil, certain it was there waiting
They say life is what you make it, like sandwich
Get yo bread, fully clothed or part naked
In a robe in front of patrons, halle-lujah
The moment now can shape a fu-ture.
Stitches in a blanket wrapped around flesh

Tight like a suture, bound tight. Let heal.
Iongiva good gawd dam the river styx
With heathen spirits, Pay the Ferryman for a round trip
Wished death came served lit on frowned tips
Pull, drag, inhale, hold, exhale, breathe
Pull, drag, choke, exhale, wheeze.
She lives on, in a shoebox barely making rent
Blaming every one but drugs on where the money went

Doing right is a battle, stay
In con-trol
Fight like the devil, to
Save your soul
Oh, man it's never easy when you know
Ending it will make the struggle easy
Fight like the devil, to
Save your soul.
Save your soul.

She had a troubled past, pissy drunk mother, Dad
Did his best while she hunted velvet bags
Crown, far from royal her court composed of trailers
Double-wide attempts to contain, but couldn’t save her.
In and out of bad situations, the girl grad
Uated from watching failure and finally made it out
Into the arms of an undignified mouse among men
Sins came in the form of stiff jabs to her young chin

Blues, hidden behind makeup, foundation compacted
The fact that he packed her body with batches of acid
Made up to apparently break up her exit
Missed the period, ran on and found herself pregnant
Writing digital messages to loved ones for help
But passage to freedom left in pieces on the shelf
She contracted illness, the bastard brought home viruses
When I saw her, tried hiding rage behind my irises

She spiraled down a path like a penny down the plastic well
Round and round for a minute, swallowed in a plastic hell
Into the blackness through the window, glass and plastics fell
He crashed the car, speeding, he had hash to sell.
Survived. At the same moment, me and people spoken
To heathens from neighborhoods and branches of hemoglobin
Given the description then spoke less
A nod would’ve given the okay to leave a cadaver broken.

Boy, it woulda looked like a botched robbery, a break-in
Bats across face till skin shed like snake skin
Till shins split, or given a split wig, and then split
But that hit woulda snapped and ruined life and that's it
Lines from the light, better book though
Son was caught, handed 12, County look yo
Court folks stepped in, placed them children with some kin
Now they’re teens with a life, a better look yo. Saved.

Doing right is a battle, stay
In con-trol
Fight like the devil, to
Save your soul
Oh, man It's never easy till you see
Give a moment, they can take it all
Keep your balance never take the fall
Never take the fall.
Never take the fall.
